Advanced Clinical Work with Transgender Clients
Course Description

This intermediate course provides a deeper exploration of complex clinical issues for those who are already working with transgender clients. Explore the impact of making a gender transition, with an emphasis on how significant relationships are affected, including that of the therapist; the impact of hormones and the changing relationship to one's body and sexuality; as well as the relationship between sexual orientation and gender identity. This course combines didactic lecture, clinical case examples and group discussion.

Please Note: This class includes a working lunch. Students should bring a bag lunch. A film will be shown during the lunch hour.

Instructor Biography

Lisette Lahana, LCSW, is in private practice in Oakland, CA and is a clinician at Kaiser Permanente's Adult Psychiatry Department in Union City, CA as well as a part time clinician in the Kaiser Permanente Multi-Specialty Transitions Department. Licensed since 1999, she is a Gender Specialist who works with transgender and gender nonconforming individuals and their families. She has taught numerous courses and provides individual and group consultation for mental health professionals working with clients across the gender spectrum. She has been a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health since 2002.
